Working for a council brings up strange ones....

Chemicals for the local swimming pool -> chemicals can only be put in 2410000 - Horticultural - Chemicals. Which I find, to be honest, as bit odd

Chemicals are not only used in horticultural....

another one: calibration of weights and measures for trading standards -> I can only guess but I've put it in 181811 - Environmental Svs, Technical Equipment, Measuring

I do miss a category which covers calibration; either of weights and measures or even equipment (Fluke meters, decibel meters, etc)

Cheers

Thanks for the interesting question.

We agree that chemicals should not be under Horticulture, we also think that ‘Swimming Pools’ should be in the classification, under Sports, so propose that:

‘Sports & Playground Equipment & Maintenance’ is changed to:

‘Sports, Playground Equipment & Swimming Pools & Maintenance’

With ‘Swimming Pool Equipment’ & Swimming Poole Maintenance’ (products & service) added. The chemicals could go under maintenance products.

We further think that ‘Horticultural/Weed Control’ should be changed to:

‘Horticultural/Treatments/Weed Control’ and ‘Horticultural/Treatments/Fertilizers’ should be added.

This means we would remove ‘Chemicals’ from ‘Horticultural’ altogether but are not sure if it should go elsewhere?

Currently we think that:

‘Environmental Services/Technical Equipment/Laboratory’

‘Environmental Services/Technical Equipment/Measuring’

‘Environmental Services/Technical Equipment/Testing’

probably covers calibration etc. reasonably well, although we invite other opinions.

The next version of ProClass which will be vC11.1 should released in November this year so these changes will take effect then, if they are agreed.

another one:
a school asked for a PA system, I have classed it in
291110 Arts & Leisure Services Professional Musical Instruments

However this category really should say: Professional Musical Instruments & Equipment

Just a thought though....

We think that a PA system should be classified as:

171111/Education/Audio Visual

it's not something I would have classed under 'Education' as the main category - I would have put it in 'Facilities & managed svs' (create sub: - Audio visual); the reason why is because 'design & photography' and 'CCTV' are in there too.

I don't know about other but the current doesn't make logical sense in my head, but that could just be me....

If is useful from a classification point of view to try to use the most appropriate heading for expenditure. For a school purchase the ProClass top heading of ‘Education’ is a good place to start. A PA system is audio so the second level of ‘Audio Visual’ is appropriate too. I don’t see how ‘Facilities Management/‘Design & Photography’ and ‘Facilities Management/Security’ can be connected in these circumstances? They are neither educational or audio related.
